Ukraine bans porn possession At the beginning of July, owning porn became a criminal offense in the Ukraine. President Viktor Yushchenko agreed to sign the bill that would result in fines and three years in prison for offenders.
Only material kept “for medical purposes” is allowed. (Does that mean one can claim to have a cold that only Bel Ami can cure?)
Free-speech proponents and human-rights activists argued the bill was too broad; pornography was not even defined in the bill, leaving the law at the discretion of the police and judges.
Lawmaker Hennadiy Moskal said critics have nothing to fear, and the new law will not be abused. “I am sure that number of cases won’t increase,” he said.
And you can always trust a politician!
